Happy Independence Day!

MEMORIES MOVIE REVIEW

Till this morning, I had rated Jeethu Joseph as a director who belongs neither to the biggest league or the paltry level that hardly anyone cares. He always cared to play it safe at the box-office with films that ensur at least its budget recovery and catered to the taste of a target audience. But all that notions were due for a shock-treatment after the next two and a half hours. And the species called 'Prithviraj haters' find your den to hide as this one is nearly flawless.

This investigative thriller is both scripted and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by P.K.Muralidharan and Shantha Murali, who had earlier produced Prithvi's evergreen hit Classmates and Chocolate, under the banner Anantha Visions.. The film, which is a taut thriller, has Prithvi and Meghna Raj in the lead has Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Suresh Krishna, Madhupal, Sreejith Ravi, Rahul Madhav, and Mia in crucial roles.

Prithviraj's histrionics comes to the limelight with his superlative portrayal of the drunkard police officer. Sam Alex (Prithvi) is a man living in his indelible memories that his profession had inflicted on him. Writing the whole story here will definitely prove to be spoilers. The investigation starts with Sam Alex being assigned the task of finding the retaliatory killer wreaking havoc in the state. Jeethu manages to blend family drama, crime investigation, and Sam's personal and professional life in perfect proportions.

The narrative garners pace with each scene and the interval punch leaves you at the edge of your seats. Second half leaves you biting your nails and Jeethu has taken special care to maintain the quintessential suspense factor till the climax.

There is only one song, sung by Vijay Yesudas, that treads the protagonist's past. Cinematography also deserves good scores. The film is crisply edited with a duration of 2 hours 20 minutes. The only cons that can be mentioned, just for the namesake, are some lag in the first half and performances of some fresh faces. But the fact is that they are not playing any noteworthy roles and the script is brilliant enough to make it up. According to my personal opinion, the film is a MUST WATCH and the best thriller that I have watched in Malayalam in the recent past. You just can't help but clap at the climax scene. Prithviraj is making waves with his investigative thrillers after the 'Suresh Gopi era'.
